Several Blogger Issues

There are many things to learn about Blogger which I will probably never master. For instance, how to post pictures with text interspersed. Another mystery is how you post links to other blogs, UTube clips, put a little icon or picture next to your name, and the cream of the crop, slideshows (especially of scrapbook pages). It would be fantastic to know how to do this and more that I see others doing, but my knowledge is acquired slowly, usually by accident or trial and error, mostly error.

Just now I finished a post I started on Tuesday. But it posted below one I wrote later in the week, even though I just posted today, Saturday. I tried to cut and paste the text into a new post, but no luck even using Control C and Control V which I thought was pretty clever of me.

Today is just a gorgeous autumnesque day. Perfect for porch sitting, but it's time to spring up and get some busy work done. The soccer fields were flooded today so the game was cancelled. This left me with a GIFT of six hours (drive, game and lunch time) I wasn't expecting. It was like wow, what can I do now? I better clean the cars (not).

I love the idea of telling your life story through letters to friends and family. Seems even more personal and in a different perspective than perhaps a journal or diary might present.

Maybe I can help with a few of these things:

Lemme start you with the easiest thing, adding a photo next to your profile: Go into your blogger "dashboard". On the right, it'll have your name "Susan D" and "edit profile". It's the same place where you added your favorite books, movies, etc. There's a place in there for a photo, just download your photo there and it'll use that.

Posting pictures with text interspersed - when you're composing your post in Blogger, there are 2 tabs on the top right of the box you're typing in. One says "Edit HTML" the other says "Compose". You're probably in Compose. You'll want to go into "Edit HTML". Sounds scary, but if you can ignore all the stuff that looks like a foreign language, then you're good to go. After you've downloaded your photos, just go into "Edit HTML" and between each of the gobbly gook, which is the HTML for your photo, you can type your text. I don't know HTML, so I just messed around for a while till I figured it out.

Adding links to other blogs or editing anything on your sidebar...you'll have to edit your Template. Click on the "Template" tab, then there's a "Customize Design" tab underneath that. Click on it and play in there for a little while.

Now, the fun slideshow thingy. Go to www.slide.com. You'll have to create your slideshow, just follow all their instructions and steps. AFter you've finished creating it, look for the HTML code, it'll be headed by "Embed". Copy all of that, then you will have to paste it into your template, embed it so to speak. Finding where in your template is the tricky part. In my template, I look in the HTML code and try to find wherever all the links are, it's more towards the bottom. In yours currently, it'll show "Google News" since you haven't edited anything yet, but it might change when you play around in "customize design". I just pasted that HTML code I copied from Slide.com somewhere in there. BTW, I highly recommend copying all of your HTML code in your template to a text document or Word before manually changing your template, that way you can paste the original back in if you mess up.

Mostly, have fun and as long as you've saved your template original somewhere, be brave and just start playing. A lot of it is a matter of trial and error, but once you've started, your blog becomes so much more your own.
